    Press conference
  • During a press conference, the president of the African confederation and of the IAAF Lamine Diack declared : "We need to think the African championships but not in terms of number of countries or number of athletes. Africa has the best athletes in the world, as a consequence, I don't see why Fredericks, for example has to go through two rounds with athletes running in 11"30. We need to preserve the level of our athletics and of the African championships".

    10000m
  • Derartu Tulu's return to track was long-awaited. Unfortunately, the Ethiopian, present in Tunis, didn't not take part in the race because of a sore throat.

    400mH
  • After his race, Llewellyn Herbert declared to the journalist of the BBC that he didn't get used to Tunisian food.

    Pole vault
  • Karim Sene (Senegal) was the only winner to turn down his selection in the African team, aware that his level was not good enough to perform well during the World Cup. Great favorite Okkert Brits finally renouced to go to Tunis, explaining that he hadn't found a way to carry his poles to Tunisia.
