    400m
  • The heats of the women's 400m were not well balanced if one saw how easily Amy Mbacke Thiam and Nadjina Kaltouma qualified in their races in comparison to the first heat that included no fewer than two Camerounese and two Nigerian.

    400mH
  • Senegalese hurdler Tacko Diouf was only third of the 400m hurdles. She broke her collarbone one month before the event, which seriously affected her preparation.

    110mH
  • Sultan Tucker's third place gave a bronze medal to Liberia. The country's team was composed only by athletes living in North America. They could take part in the championships thanks to the generosity of a Liberian-American sponsor who bore all the costs of travel and accomodation.
