26 August interviews
  • Amina Aït Hammou (Morocco) - 4th of the 800m final in 2'01"09.

"The 800m final turned a bit into a tactical race between Maria Mutola and Kelli Holmes. In the last 200m, when Kelli Holmes launched her attack, it seems like Maria Mutola locked the door to prevent the others to close the gap. Personnally, I was quite late to make the move and when I tried, in the last bend, I found myself ejected in lane 3. Being fourth is already well for my first participation at the World championships, but I'm not happy with the time at all. I hoped I would be at least third because I was the third best performer this season and both Ceplak and Graf weren't in the final. I think that lack of experience cost me the podium".

  • Françoise Mbango (Cameroon) - silver medallist in the triple jump with 15,05m, new African record

"I'm happy that I jumped above 15m twice in the same event, it's the first time it happens to me. I came to Paris with the intention of winning, but I knew that 15,20m would be needed to get the gold. I was convinced I could do better than 15m, but the question was to know if I'd be able to reach 15,20m. I hope that that people in Cameroon followed the event live. I really wanted the Cameroonese anthem to be heard. It's a pity but I nevertheless put up a creditable performance. I stumbled on my last attempt because I tried to go very fast, something I had never tried before".
