October 2003

All-Africa Games, October 2003 in Abuja (Nigeria)

Results              Official website
  • The beginning of the men's high jump was delayed for 1 hour because of a judge strike. The athletes were also disturbed by the rain.

  • Ghana's triple jumper Andrew Owusu arrived in Abuja from the United States the same day he was due to compete. He hadn't been told about last minute changes in the schedule. This eventually didn't prevent him from winning the event.

  • The performances of the men's discus were invalidated and won't feature in the world lists as it appears that an implement weighting 1,75kg instead of 2kg was used.

  • Edith Masai's poor performance on 5000m wasn't that surprising as the athlete had been complaining about pain in one of her breast for several days and had even requested to go back home before the beginning of the competition.
