Amar Bouras was elected president of the Algerian federation by an elective assembly requested by the IAAF as part of the reintegration process following the federation's suspension last November. Hassiba Boulmerka's former coach, who was the only contender, will complete the term of the former executive board that ends in 2008.

Morocco
After six years during which Moroccan athletics was directed by a provisional committee, Abdeslam Ahizoune, was elected unanimously president of the Moroccan federation following the withdrawal of the other prospects, Hicham El Guerrouj, Mohamed El Ouardi et Mohamed Moumen. Ahizoune is president of Maroc Telecom.

Algeria
On November 14th, the IAAF suspended the Algerian federation, barring Algerian athletes from international competitions. The decision was taken following the suspension of the federation's president Tewfik Chaouch Teyara and executive committee by Algeria Sports Minister
Yahia Guidoum in September. Amar Bouras was subsequently elected as the new president in a move that was judged unacceptable by the IAAF.

Francis John was elected new president of Tanzania athletics Association. He succeeds
Elias Sulus who held this position for eight years.

Burundi
Déo Nshimirimana and Bernard Juma were elected president and vice-president of the federation.
Herménegilde Gahungu will be the new general secretary while Phydia Inamahoro was elected treasurer.
Namibia
Namibia's minister of Sport has removed the executive committee of Athletics Namibia led by Alpha Kangueehi because of its inability to prepare the junior athletes for the Southern Africa Under-20 Youth Games to be held by Namibia at the end of June.

42 year-old Salamata Cissé, has been named national technical director.
Djibouti
Colonel Omar Bouh has been elected President of Djibouti's federation for 4 years. He already held this position 20 years ago when marathoners from Djibouti (Ahmed Salah, Robleh Djama, Abdillahi Charmarké) shone on the world scene.

Violet Odogwu-Nwajei was elected president of Nigeria's federation for 4 years. She succeeds to Dan Ngerem.

Ivory Coast
Bernard Kouabo died on January 21st in his sixtieth year. He had been president of Ivory Coast's federation from 2000 to 2003.
Algeria
Chaouch Tewfik Teyara was reelected as president of the Algerian federation.

Cameroon
Ange Sama, the organiser of Yaounde AAC meet, was elected new president of Cameroon's federation with 25 votes out of 81. He defeated reigning president Augustin Edjoa (18 votes) who had first announced he wouldn't apply for a second term and Gilbert Tsimi Evouna (11 votes), who had been tipped as the favourite before Edjoa's change of mind.

Senegalese Abdoul Whahab Bâ, general secretary of the African athletics Confederation, was elected in the International Fencing Federation's executive committee.

Ivory Coast
During the general assembly of Ivory Coast's federation, held on March 6, Hervé Porquet was elected president in replacement of Bernard Kouabo who was dismissed one year ago. Porquet got 17 votes for 6 to Augustin Sérikpa Dago. The application of former high jumper Lucienne N'da had been invalidated a few days earlier because of irregularities in her file.

At the time of the African championships, to be held from July 14 to 18 in Brazzaville (Congo), the African confederation will organise its first yearly gala, which will gather several generations of athletes who shone for Africa.

Zambia
The Zambian federation (ZAAA) has clinched a one-year deal with Puma -to supply its athletes with kits for international events - thanks to journalist Phil Minshull.
Zimbabwe
Following the election of the new executive committe, Kenneth Nyape and Juma Phiri were respectively appointed as national coach in charge of junior development and national director in charge of field events.
